UPAC Theatre Group began as United Performing Arts Company in the summer of 1999 as a small group of people who loved theater and wanted to share it with the community in the Ballard/Crown Hill area of north Seattle. We began with three performances of “The Importance of Being Earnest", and soon discovered we had stumbled upon a true need in our community for great, family-friendly community theatre. Since that time we have done one show every summer in August, with auditions in May.

We do a variety of shows, but especially love doing comedies that the whole family can enjoy. In addition to “…Earnest", our past shows include “Once is Enough" by Jack Sharkey; “Arsenic & Old Lace" by Joseph Kesselring; “The Hound of the Baskervilles", adaptation by Tim Kelly; “Murder's Bad, but Monday Can Kill You!" by Pat Cook; “You Can't Take it With You" by Hart & Kaufman and “The Voice of the Prairie" by John Olive; “The Curious Savage” by John Patrick and “Three Murders and It’s Only Monday” by Pat Cook.

UPAC Theatre Group is a community theater. Our volunteer staff consists of seven people. We have also enjoyed working with high school interns backstage most summers – mentoring the next generation of theatre is an important part of why we exist.

We look forward each year to welcoming more people into our UPAC family for the rehearsal and performance process. UPAC strives to provide a safe, comfortable environment for both actors and backstage personnel to practice their art. UPAC has worked with people with the full range of experience, from seasoned acting veterans to first-time acting novices. Each cast and crew molds itself to work with each other as a family and helps the others to grow in their art. We consciously create a nurturing environment, where challenging one another to grow is natural. People say, "The play's the thing", but it's really the rehearsal process.

UPAC Theatre Group is extremely excited to move into our 10th year in 2008. We look forward to presenting a one-act play by Jeff Smith, “Curses! Foiled Again” in late February/early March, and then produce our first full musical, the classic “Godspell”! We are very thankful for the support and free space provided each summer by United Evangelical Free Church for the duration of our rehearsal and production process since our inception.
